What We Do The Lechlade and District Society was formed in 1973 with the specific aim of independently monitoring and influencing major development projects and planning applications within our locality. The locality was defined as the town of Lechlade and all villages within a five-mile radius. We are dedicated to the long-term viability of our Thames-side market town and the surrounding villages of Buscot, Kelmscot, Little Faringdon, Filkins, Eastleach and Southrop. We are registered with the national Civic Trust.
We are formally consulted by the Cotswold District Council on all major planning applications and development issues. By promoting the highest standards for the constructed and natural environment and ensuring balanced economic development, we provide our independent views to those who propose changes to Lechlade and its surrounding villages.
In order to add weight to our views we actively seek coordination with our town council, specialist groups and societies within the town. We also participate in partnerships at regional, county and district levels. In so doing we endeavour to have a representative impact on the development of our community.
